Which
lightweight twin stroller Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around in a lightweight double pushchair, especially if you have children with different age groups. They're typically simple to fold, steer, and transport up and down the stairs.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom and reclining that can be adjusted. It also has huge UPF 50+ canopies with windows that peek out. It also features a smart frame that expands widthways to accommodate a second seat, and also a compatible car seat(s).
Side-by-Side
The majority of light double pushchairs that we tested are side-by-side designs and are best suited for kids who can stand up without assistance because they tend to lack car seat integration. However there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both excellent options that offer adjustable recline in both seats, a huge canopy and padded 5-point harnesses. They are also simple to maneuver, despite their larger footprint. They are ideal for parents who fret about fitting through doors.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its clever frame that expands in width to accommodate a second seat, making it slimmer than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating available. It can fit through standard doors and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It is also a jogger, which is ideal if you plan to use it with an infant car seat or baby carrier.
Another excellent side-by-side lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which offers even more customization through a modular frame. It has a smart design that allows you to turn it into a single buggy or a double by incorporating two car seats or carrycots (it can even accommodate twins). It's a good option for families growing. The umbrella stroller UPPAbaby is one of the lightest, most fashionable and stylish strollers available.
Try the egg2, which can be folded down to the size and weight of a small suitcase. It can be used either as a single or double by adding 2 baby car seats or carrycots. Our test subjects were awed by how easy it was to move, even with a full load of kids.
Side-by-side pushchairs that are lightweight aren't foolproof, though -when your children are the same age or stage they might still argue over who rides in which seat. If they are at different heights, then a tandem style may be the best option for them, since it lets them face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models may be better suited for siblings with similar ages tandem pushchairs are light and lightweight, and offer their own perks. They can be fitted with a larger car seat, and some even have seats that can be reversible or a carrycot that is located in the middle. They are more spacious and easy to get in and out of. However the baskets they use tend to be smaller than the ones found on
single to double pushchair buggies. Many have larger canopies with windows that peek out and cushioned leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a great value lightweight tandem. Its fabric feels a bit less luxurious than our other top-rated doubles, but it still looks and feels great and is user-friendly. One of the most impressive things about it is its one-handed fold. While it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab has said it's "genius". The carrycot can't be folded when it is attached. However, the mechanism to attach and remove the carrycot is quick and easy.
Tandem lightweight double strollers will typically have tighter turning capabilities than side-by-side models. However, they may be more difficult to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is another option. It starts out as one but you can also add adapters to convert it into double. These can include the option of a second seat or carrycot in front or the kids can be seated side-byside. Some can also consider adding a buggyboard, which assists an older child to keep up with siblings who are younger.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a great example of a convertible, because it can also be converted into a twin pram with the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) which create a lay-flat space for newborns. These can be placed in a row or joined to face each other, and you can use them with the baby car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you select an appropriate one). These dual-use buggies are made of high-quality materials and can last for many years without showing any wear. This means that they have an excellent resale value.
Single-to-Double
Designed for outdoor-loving families who are looking to upgrade their single stroller, this
lightweight double buggy turns into a jogger with the help of a nifty kit that includes air-filled tyres as well as all-wheel suspension. It's also a good option for twins, or children from different ages and as a triple tandem, it's able to be able to handle the rough terrain. It's an excellent choice for parents who want a sleek style that's as simple as a single. It comes in different fabric colours.
This iCandy model is very easy to fold with a one-handed system. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, however our home tester Karolina says it's still very capable of maneuvering even with two toddlers inside and the carrycot.
You can purchase add-ons such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers with good headrests and lumbar support. There are plenty of options for reclining and recline, with the front seat adjusting to various positions and the rear seat having a recline option.
The biggest drawback of this kind of buggy is that it is generally larger overall than the side-by-side doubles which makes it more difficult to get through doorways and can be difficult to maneuver around kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension on these models generally perform well in handling paved surfaces, and the fact that they're generally lighter than the side-by-sides, means you still have plenty of storage space. These strollers can be difficult to maneuver in supermarkets with narrow aisles and they may struggle to carry a large amount. It's easier to turn around on the smallest curves of paths, but it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are more easy to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The
best twin stroller thing about
convertible double pushchairs is that they are able to adapt to the changing family requirements. They are typically single buggies, and include adapters that permit you to add a second child's seat or a carrycot (in certain instances) the car seat to the frame. Some can be converted to a single buggie when your child reaches the age of walk or chooses to ride a buggyboard.
One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model can carry children as heavy as 40 pounds each. It also has an easy-to-use basket between the seats to store things. The spacious canopy with peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and a front and back suspensions to ensure smoother and more comfortable riding on rough terrain were praised by the home testers. It also has a convenient cup holder for parents and a large, easy-to access basket. The backs have small pockets, that are just sufficient to hold phones and a set of keys.
This top-of-the-line, lightweight side-byside can be used in more than 20 different configurations, and comes with an additional seat and carrycot. Its impressive set of features includes a high-profile handlebar for easier steering as well as rear and front suspensions to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing compact fold that has straps that make it easy to schlep and seven-inch swivel lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension for a smoother ride. The only drawback is that you'll need to buy a separate baby carrier or car seat.
This multi-functional tandem is the top choice of our home testers due to the fact that it is easy to maneuver and has an enormous shopping basket that can be accessed from both seats when in the parent-facing position. Its light weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs) makes it a breeze to move. The seats are reversible, which means that you can switch them around to face either direction and the clever way that it connects an additional seat or riding board to the rear is praised by many. Parents also liked the fact that it could accommodate infant carriers and car seats from multiple brands, including some that aren't typically fit into other double buggies.
