Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum can keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency at which you'll need to manually vacuum. Select a vacuum with good navigation, can clean stairs and corners and has a large bin that needs to be emptied periodically.
There are models that can mop and charge themselves, which is a feature essential for families with pets or children. The top performers in our tests have decent obstacle avoidance.
1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin as it gets full.
Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have test. It could get stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.
iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include getting rid of any clutter or toys it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filters clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and automatically empties the dirt into the station's dust bin. It then continues cleaning from where it left off. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes three hours to charge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the
Top Rated Robot Vacuum model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any
best robot cleaner vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or via the app.
In our testing the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our top choice, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces the cost of maintenance.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility
amazon robot vacuum Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. Once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum in many households however, it can also fit nicely on a coffee table or on a bookshelf where you can wave it around like the magic tool.
The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task that is being completed. It is able to swiftly change from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.
This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and provides an easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons models, which require a lengthy charge and are a pain to store.
The main issue with the V10 is its limited running time. As CR's tests have shown, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is an average not an extraordinary run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. This is enough time to sweep the typical home, but not enough to get into every corner. (A second run generally works). However, this model isn't a good choice: It's lighter and maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's a great choice for people who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our testing, and it often passes over the same areas many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it isn't equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often is power-depleted before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is able to better navigate itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips that can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more durable, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a greater variety of features for automation.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a brand you see on all sorts of home electronics, so it comes as no surprise that they're also one of the top mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.
The app provides plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior customization docking frequency settings and much more. It's easy to understand and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. It was not as successful in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than some of the other models we've tested and could be a deterrent for some buyers.
The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed through the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned to ensure the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that self-empties and helps keep the robot's dustbin clear and optimizes suction power for each cleaning.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Unlike other
robotic vacuum cleaner on sale vacuums, which are designed for both hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. They have a wider cleaning path as well as a large dust bin that can hold 2X more debris than competitors to keep the cleaning area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also include two side sweepers to clean along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model includes AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's collecting dirt that is on the surface or embedded. It also includes a smart application that lets you see the virtual map and manage the functions and schedules. You can also track the vacuum's status and send it to its dock for charging with the touch of a single button. The app lets you customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.
The app allows you to manually steer the robot in the event of need. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that can trip up some of the other robots I've tried. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the edge. And the ability to set up weekly cleaning schedules is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
