Buying a Convertible Single to Double Stroller
The news that you are expecting your second child is among the most exciting things to hear. Preparing your family for the new baby can be difficult.
One of these is selecting the best double pram for your needs. This article will cover what options are available and also provide tips to help you choose the best pram for your growing family.
Convertible double prams
A convertible single-to-double stroller is an excellent choice for those who want a stroller to grow with your family. These clever frames, such as the Cybex Aton 4 Twin, can be extended in width to accommodate a second seat and usually come with the option of an additional shopping basket, or two car seats/car carrycots (with upper adapters and lower adapters readily available) so that you can start your family with one buggy and later upgrade to twins without the need to buy a new one once more. They usually have more configurations and seating options for both children than other styles of double prams and have better weight distribution, which means they're generally easier to maneuver. Pros: Easy to use small and compact. Cons: It takes up less space and
Folding pushchair storage for both children when compared to other designs.
Tandem (in-line) double prams
As the name implies, tandem prams have two bassinets or seats that are positioned one ahead of the other. Tandem prams tend to be narrower than double prams that are side-by-side. They are also more maneuverable through doors and public transport. However, they don't have as much storage space and may be more difficult to access when both seats are being used if your toddler is sitting in the front seat.
Some first-time parents choose a tandem pram to future-proof their investment, especially in the case of children who are close to the age of. A popular model is our DUO2 pram that is initially designed as a single buggy and can be converted to a twin stroller by the addition of the second seat. It can also be converted back to a single stroller once your child is older and outgrows the buggy.
Tandem prams are available in a variety of designs, including the option for infants to be placed in a bassinet of the
pram double on top while an older child sits in the seat below. Many can be converted into a travel system by incorporating an automobile capsule that is placed on the top seat.
A side-by-side double stroller lets both children to share a ride and converse while they ride. This will prevent them from fighting or waking eachother up.
A side-by-side is also the perfect choice for grandparents who want to join in the fun - they can carry both children around and assist with shopping, running errands or attending events. They are usually cheaper than a tandem pram so they can be a great way to introduce grandkids to babysitting duties.
Single prams
A single pram only allows for 1 seat or bassinet/carry cot. It is typically suitable from newborn through to approx. four years old. Many single prams allow toddler boards (depending on the type of toddler board you select) to be tacked to the back so that a child can stand, or sit, while you push the stroller.
Some first-time parents decide to ensure their pram is future-proofed by purchasing a double
pram for newborn option, such as our DUO2. It can be used in single mode until you have your second child and then convert it into a tandem double pram when the second baby is born. This saves you the cost and burden of having to purchase an additional double pram.
Tandem or in-line double prams are a bit bigger than side-by-side double prams, but they are more maneuverable on busy sidewalks and in stores. However, they can be more difficult to use while jogging and will require greater effort to push when you're climbing or descending hills.
They are wider than tandem or in-line double prams however they are a great choice when your children are in the same age range. The children are able to see each other and interact from their seats. They are less maneuverable than tandem strollers, and may not fit through standard doors as easily.
Side-by-side
good prams that are not convertible cannot be used in single mode. You'll have to purchase a new pram or a stroller for your children's younger ones. They are cheaper and last longer than convertible double
strollers strollers, because they were not intended to be used in double and single modes. The biggest drawback is that your child may soon outgrow a side-byside and require to be shifted to a toddler's seat. This can be expensive.
