WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up to date.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.
Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an
item upgrader kit upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3, the upgrade system was modified a bit, and several new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will cost less even in the event that they are part of a different gear set.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific
item level upgrade level upgrades. Crests are an important component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests can only be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.
Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an
item level upgrade upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.
Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an
item level upgrade is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another notable change is that crests have one use, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
