The latest project - dubbed the Space Key - is a piece of art that was created in collaboration with a lone artist. The unique NFT is a tangible item that has a link to exclusive digital artwork, accessible via an QR code printed on the back. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made from a carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini smuggled to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an experiment. The carbon fiber was transformed into a unique art work when it returned to Earth. The physical component has an NFT serial code that ties to the digital art work via a QR code on the back.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social-media posts hints, luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first venture for non-fungible tokens (NFT). Called the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock a unique digital artwork NFT by a yet-to-be-identified artist. The project was developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the "collector's work" is limited to just five units and will soon be auctioned off.

At the heart of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth, it was made into the QR code which links it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels up each of the five images, which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera to take each of the individual images, which were then combined into the final image. The result is a truly out of this world image that reveals the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there's no precise date or place yet.

The auction

Each one will be auctioned by itself and the winner will receive an original digital art work created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five different times the Space Key passed during its journey through space.
