Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight places.
If you're looking for a smooth ride on your pram, choose models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. However, they are susceptible to punctures so be prepared with an repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
The latest figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy - that noughties symbol of more money than sense is in a decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking elegant and easy to push.
The rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear, make it easier to move and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with the newborn baby and a 3-year-old child and found it to be extremely sturdy. It handled cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, aswell as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasional pumping) have suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.
The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to think about. The seat should be big enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies have the option of lying flat that allows the child to face you, while others only allow a parent-facing one.
An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. It can be used as a one-person unit from the beginning and can be modified to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4. It comes with a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a huge padded seat. Storage options are also good with a large basket with zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with a greater diameter
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - perfect for buggies designed for off-road use. They also allow you to navigate the
pushchair 3 wheels through tight spaces. Many
three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is also useful if you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.
Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are among our favorite 3-wheelers. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that, she says "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. The buggies also come with suspensions that Kath says "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".
Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide, and they may be a challenge to fit into narrow spaces. This can be a problem if you use it as a jogger or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Luckily, most models have small folding options that allow you to take off the front wheels for more compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with a child. They are designed so that the front wheels can turn on a dime, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried an
all terrain 3 wheel stroller-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver in rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was particularly useful." I was also impressed with how well it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when for descending or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback of this amazing maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces, something to keep in mind when you live in a metropolitan region. If this is a concern then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better choice for you.
Bumper bar

This provides a lower centre of gravity for your baby at the right height and also offers an excellent weight distribution, making it easier to pop over curbs (it is much easier to push the stroller up and over than you think). MFM reviewer Kath discovered that it was able to cope well with cobbles and grass and it's a good option for jogging with its lockable swivel front wheel that can be locked and air filled tyres.
With a stylish and sophisticated look, this bumper bar will surely attract attention wherever you go. Available in a range of colours and finishes, it can be customized to fit your style.
