If the backup remote is able to lock and unlock your car doors then there's a likely issue with the main remote. The most common causes for car
remote key repairs key failure are circuitry or battery issues.
Battery
It is not uncommon for the battery inside the car key fob to get worn out. It is simple to replace batteries. However, it is important that you use the correct type. You can check your owner's manual or call the manufacturer to inquire about the right kind. It is also a good idea to examine the battery compartment carefully since dead batteries may leak caustic chemicals that can harm the
remote key repair. If replacing the batteries doesn't solve the issue it could be that there are other issues that require professional attention. For instance, if the buttons seem to be stuck or broken, it may be necessary to disassemble the remote and rebuild its components. You can also try reprogramming your
car to recognize the new key fob.
Buttons
Through repeated use, key fobs can wear out and become dirty. It is not unusual to have buttons stop working, or to require a hefty press to get them working. This can be extremely frustrating, especially if you are out of town and need to start your car. Even worn-out or malfunctioning buttons can be fixed with a little time and the tools you already have at home.
First, check that the batteries are properly charged and that the indentation on the back of the button is filled. Then, carefully open the remote and look at the circuit board. Look for indications of rust or other indications that the buttons are damaged or worn out. For instance the paint that conducts electricity could be missing. Use the Q-tip, dipped in alcohol, gently clean any membrane contacts that have worn or where conductive paint is missing. Be careful not to rub too hard, as this can erode the conductive painting and prevent the button firing when the button is pressed.
Also, carefully check the battery connector's terminals to ensure an unattached solder connection. If this is the case, reconnecting them may restore functionality to the button. You can apply the same procedure to restore functionality to any other loose connection within the fob.
If any of the rubber buttons located at the front of the keyfob are not working or require being press very hard, the graphite disks at the back of the button could have worn out and require replacement. You can usually do this by rubbing a pencil over the disks. This should bring the button to life.
If all of this doesn't help or if the button still doesn't respond to a hard push, then it may be the case that the circuit board itself has gone bad. It is possible to fix this by a quick clean, and re-soldering, but it is best to have an extra fob available in the event this method does not work for you.
Circuitry
The circuit board in your remote control may be dirty, regardless of whether the buttons on the key fob function or not. A very thorough inspection is usually enough to fix this issue. Water and broken cases are the most frequent causes of dirty boards. A broken case allows water and other debris to pass through and short out the electronic components. Water can also destroy pins and small connectors on the board, which are known as via's.
If you're able to remove your key fob, and you're not afraid of some mess, we can remove the solder from the buttons and solder new ones in their place. Also, it's worth checking the connections between battery terminals. They can become extremely filthy and if they're not tight enough, the buttons might not function or may even remain in their down position. Soldering the terminals and buttons back in place is usually all that's needed to return the
mobile key repair fob key repair that is not working to working condition.
Non-Remote Transponder Chips
Sealed non-remote transponder chip are more durable than the remote fobs they are contained in, however they are still susceptible to being cracked by a hole made in them or pushed over by a lawnmowers blade or
car key fob repair service door handle. The failure of the fuse is usually to blame for non-remote chip failures.
If you're not confident opening the key fob, remove the circuitboard and utilize a multimeter to verify that the diode is operating properly. If you're not confident doing this, visit your local hardware store or the Oreilly's and they'll usually have an RF frequency tester that will tell you if the key fob is sending signals.
Programming
Key fobs take many abuses and aren't completely indestructible. They can lose their pairing to the receiver in your car because of shock or a low battery, which requires the reprogramming. A professional auto locksmith or main dealer will be able to reprogram your key fob to get it functioning again. If resetting or repairing your key fob fails it is possible to replace it.
