How to Replace an audi remote key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult because there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. Check for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a significant reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. So i assume the problem is in another place.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is 0.

Hyundai.jpgI'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. To do this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger the engine shutting down.

A failing G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. The good thing is that they are very cheap and easily accessible, especially in the case of the Bosch sensor, like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this part is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It's an essential component of the audi spare key's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is turning. If the sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission and the rest of the audi car key replacement's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the audi replacement key tt replacement key audi key - her response, 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
