WoW Upgrades - The
Item UpgraderUpgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The
item upgrader kit upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of weapon or armor. The
item upgrades used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with an The button will show a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.
item level upgrade upgraders can be found in a variety of locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.
In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a certain item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less, even if they are part of a different gear set.
The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.
Crests
Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific
item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.
The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.
The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
Another notable change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
