Choosing a Double
Pushchair TwinIf you have twins you'll need a double pushchair to get them from A to B. Our selection includes a variety of twin prams as well as
double pram pushchair buggies with various configurations to meet your family's needs.
Find a stroller that can be folded in just one step, and easily put into your car. You might also want an ultra-light design that is easy to maneuver and navigate especially if you have busy roads to traverse.
Side-by-Side
They are the most popular type of double pushchair and generally can seat two children in a row. They are generally wider than single pushchairs, meaning they are less agile on the sidewalk and can be a bit difficult to navigate up and down kerbs when a car seat is attached. The extra width makes them easier to maneuver through doorways, and they are more evenly distributed, so it is less burdensome for you to carry them on your back.
Many models can be used from birth as twin prams, and can accept a carrycot, or two car seats. Some can even be converted to one mode by adding an additional basket (like the Cybex Venus).
The Bugaboo Donkey 5 is a great illustration of this. In Twin Mode, you can put the rear seat alongside the carrycot. This allows you to create an entirely enclosed twin room and is ideal for infants. This pram also comes with a number of really cool accessories, including the newborn cocoons, which can be put on the front or back (for a twin-facing pram) or facing towards the front (for a standard single). It's not as lightweight as other options, but it's very well thought out.
Lightweight
Cybex is renowned for its innovative pushchairs, and the single-to double is no exception. The frame can be extended to accommodate an additional seat. You can use the pushchair as twins from birth by adding two cocoons for newborns for a total of PS59. These cocoons create enclosed lie-flat spaces. It can also be used in an individual mode with only one child, thanks to a large basket that is placed behind the seat. And it has a rear and front suspension to tackle bumps and uneven surfaces more easily. A top pick from our reviewers.
Available in a variety of fashionable colors.
Tandem
If you plan to have twins you will need a tandem pushchair. This allows both children to sit together and look at each one another. They are ideal for activities such as visiting the zoo since the children will be able to gaze at all the animals together. They are also great for parents who have to keep an eye on their toddler and the other on their baby because they can see both of them at the same time.
Some tandem pushchairs offer extreme flexibility as they can convert back to single mode. This is especially useful when you are planning to have more than two children (or in the event that your child who is the oldest doesn't require a buggy any longer). It means you won't be left with an empty pushchair that you need to store away and can be expensive.
The Cybex Venus, for example can be used in mono or double mode. Its frame can expand to allow for an additional seat. It's not the lightest of pushchairs however it does come with a large basket that can be set behind the front seat in double mode, or at the back if in mono mode. The seats can be positioned to face each other or one can be set higher, so that it can look over the other and see what they are doing.
Other double tandem pushchairs such as the Joolz Geo 3 can seat one on top of the other, or side-by-side. They feature a sleek, compact frame that makes it easier to maneuver through doorways and aisles of supermarkets and some models can be used as a jogging or
stroller compact on rough terrain due to a four-wheel suspension and large rear wheels.
A tandem pushchair can be used to transport two carrycots or a car with a buggy seat. You can save money by establishing an entire
best travel pram system from the beginning and not making separate purchases. It is important to remember that tandems are heavier and longer than single pushchairs and can feel less stable in bumping into kerbs or over uneven surfaces. These pushchairs must also be dismantled to fit in cars.
