The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to the end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. It is essential to ensure that there is no extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

The majority of modern cylinders have been made with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in a different direction. This will help to stop the attack and keep your doors safe.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of cylinder is snapped off.
