The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are various connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is in full operation. Look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles.
