How to Replace an audi a3 keys G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different pins for the connector and they serve different purposes however the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is in full operation. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole, the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm afraid i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the position and speed the crankshaft to determine fuel injector audi Key blade (https://minibookmarking.com) timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause the engine shutting down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you have any of these problems, it is likely your sensor is failing and requires replacement. The good news is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible particularly if you're looking at a Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. Alternatively, GM's version of this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for a slew of issues with your car. It's an essential component of the transmission of your audi car keys replacement because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the car's engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is a common component across the Audi replacement key fob 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best parts could be found in wrecking yards.suzuki-logo.jpg
