WoW Upgrades - The item upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrading by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level Upgrade level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item upgrading is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using a button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment you have and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
