What to Look For in a Double Travel Buggy

A side-by-side double that has an incredibly compact footprint (for narrow entrances and public transport). Add seats or a carrycot (with adaptors) to expand the frame to accommodate children up to 50lbs per seat.

Size

In general, double pushchairs are wider than single models, especially when they're side by side buggies, like the Kolcraft Geo 3 and UPPAbaby Vista 2. The good thing is that this extra width lets them to handle heavier children without straining the chassis. They also have other important characteristics that make them stand out, including spacious pop-out canopies that come with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows as well as swivel lock front tires which help navigate narrow spots such as shopping aisles; cups with a single parent holder, an innovative fold mechanism that is able to be completed one-handed; and 10-inch back wheels that aren't designed for tough terrain but manage city streets and theme parks quite well.

In terms of cost these kinds of lightweight buggies, which are side-by-side, are surprisingly affordable.

Weight

The heavier the double travel stroller buggy, the easier it is to move and lift. The Joie Evalite Duo, which is the lightest of our Lab tests, is a great option if weight is an issue. It still has plenty of features like the large pop-out canopy, SPF50 and a peekaboo window and a quick-release folding system that can be stowed flat in just a few seconds with four-wheel suspension to handle rough terrain and a swivel wheels at the front that allows you to maneuver narrow aisles of supermarkets and stores. It's also affordable at just over PS1,000. It can also carry twins or a baby and toddler with the purchase of an additional'sidepack'.

Flexibility

A double seat stroller buggy is a great option for parents with twins or even a toddler and a baby. The narrow tandem buggies are ideal to fit into narrow spaces, while side by side models keep your children accounted for and help you to keep an eye on them as you go to the grocery store or park. They also come with a wide variety of seat configurations that allow you to modify the seat as your children grow, and some even offer the option of adding an extra ride-on board or car seat.

The Joie Evalite duo is an excellent example. It can accommodate two seats or a car seat, and its adaptors for car seats let you change from a single seat to a double stroller with car seat in just a few seconds. It has a large pop-out canopy shade with UPF 50+ protection, adjustable legrests and the window that peeks out from both seats. A standing fold is simple to do and quick.

The iCandy Peach tri-fold buggy is another option. They are ideal to navigate narrow aisles and doors. They also can easily accommodate twins and a big kid with the addition of UPPAbaby’s ‘PiggyBack’ board (which is sold separately). The basket is spacious and includes all the accessories, such as raincovers and liner.

Tandem buggies typically have your children sitting side-by-side. This makes them easier to push and more stable on uneven surfaces but they can be difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. They typically have a larger footprint than a single-seater pushchair and may be a bit too long for getting through doors.

Comfort

This is among the most comfortable, lightweight doubles we've test. It has a stadium-style seat on both seats, so your children can take in the view. It also comes with an enormous UPF 50+ canopy with the peek-a-boo window, and a cushioned toddler seat that includes an additional RumbleSeat that comes with built-in adjustable foot and leg rests and cups holder for a single parent. The testers love the way the seats recline independently by pressing a lever under each seat, and also say that the straps are simple to unfasten and fasten with one hand. The handle is simple to turn and makes it easy to fold. It can also be put away with the backrest up for easy access.

With 30 different configurations (it'll accommodate twins, a baby and toddler or three kids with the addition of a 'PiggyBack' Board) this is a fantastic option for families who want to be able to grow with their child. Its large shopping basket and soft suspension mean it's good on roads and in cities too. It is also very reasonably priced. BabyGearLab recommends this to children ages 0-6. of six.
