Buying a Double Buggy
3 wheel running buggy Wheels
This versatile buggy can be used as a single or double. It comes with 17 different configurations that can accommodate children from infants to toddlers and even a third using iCandy's 'piggyback' boards. It is also one of the most slim double strollers and is able to fit through doors as a single pushchair.
It's a lightweight and compact stroller, with an easy to use fold that can be done with one hand. It is also suitable for a variety of environments and comes with a handy shopping bag.
Adaptability
When it comes to buying a double buggy, there's lots to think about. You'll want to ensure that your children are safe, comfortable and content as you discover new routes and places. You'll also want to think about the overall cost size, weight, and durability. Picking a trusted brand (within the budget) will boost resales and make the buying process simpler.
There are two types of double buggies that have
three wheel pushchairs wheels, based on the number of children you will be carrying: side-by-side and front-facing. Side-by-side buggies are slimmer than front-facing ones, however, they have a larger footprint. However there are some smart models available that manage to reduce their size, like the Mountain Buggy Duet. It is the slimmest side-byside buggy in the world and it even fits into doorways that are narrow!
Tandem buggies, on the other hand, are often larger. They begin as a single stroller and can be adjusted using adapters to accommodate a second seat or carrycot. Some tandem buggies are able to accommodate twins, a toddler and a baby, or a child with a newborn due to their clever seat layouts. The UPPAbaby Vista 2 can be transformed into a triple by adding the optional 'Piggy Back Board'.
The iCandy Orange is another super-smart tandem buggy with an exclusive 'cinema seating' design that allows the rear seat to be adjusted to different positions so you can alter the way your children will sit. It offers a choice of 30 seating configurations and is ideal for parents who have young children at very different stages in development.
The phil&teds sports is a great alternative. This multi-award-winning buggy is a world first that will safeguard your money in the future. It begins as a brilliant single and can be adapted to accommodate two (or three!) as your family grows - all within the same footprint of a single buggy! This is possible thanks to the innovative sling seat that's perfect for newborns and offers greater maneuverability, stability, and kerb pop.
Manoeuvrability
In general
Double buggy 3 wheels are much easier to handle and manoeuvre than double pushchairs with 4 wheels. The front wheels are smaller and less wide, resulting in less weight. This means that they can be pushed more easily, and will also be much easier to manoeuvre between kerbs.
One of the best examples is the Mountain Buggy Duet. This is the slimmest tandem buggy on the market and has the same footprint as a single stroller. It is ideal for parents who are concerned about fitting in doorways or using public transportation. Plus, the fact that it can also be used with twins or 2 carrycots/car seats means it can be used at any time from birth.
UPPAbaby Vista 2 is another alternative. It's a light buggy that's perfect for city life, but also comfortable on rough or uneven terrain. It can be used by twins as well as a baby and toddler due to its four-wheel suspension and large rear wheels. It's lightweight frame makes it easy to lift and carry. The only drawback is that it's a bit harder to handle on uneven ground as compared to other models.
Comfort
If you're planning to take your buggy out for long jogs or walks, then you should spend more money on a model that can handle the rough terrain. Consider a three-wheel model with big rear wheels to withstand bumps, and a suspension system that absorbs shocks. The front wheels should be mounted ideally to give you better control over difficult terrain and to enable you to navigate around corners.
A good double buggy allows you to alter the seating positions to ensure both children are able to sit comfortably. The
best 3 wheel travel system choices include reclining seats as well as adjustable footrests that can be adjusted for older children. There's plenty of space to store your groceries keys, phone, and keys.
A simple fold mechanism is another feature to look out for. Our Lab experts prefer models with straps under the seats that remove the buggy from the frame or a lever that releases an opening and folds the frame in just a few seconds. Some models can be folded with the seat removed which makes them smaller when not in use.
The Mountain Buggy Duet has won many awards and is a side-byside with a lot of flexibility for twins or siblings. The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat (or carrycot) and still has the same footprint as a single buggy, which means it can be pushed through doorways and on public transport. It's heavier than other models but its smooth ride and effortless handling makes more up for it.
iCandy's Orange Convertible, another popular side-byside, offers a massive 30 seating configurations that can be modified to meet the needs of any child. It's a great choice for twins, as the seats can be positioned to face the parents and can be converted into the tandem pushchair.
The Joie Evalite Duo is a lightweight
3 wheel stroller travel system-wheel option that's suitable for everyday use. It's not as big or as expensive as other models but its small turning radius and fixed front wheel make it more difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. It's easy to push though and can also be used as a running buggy by the addition of a separate child carriage for jogging.
Safety
Phil&teds Sports can accommodate 2 children in multiple ways. From toddler to infant, using their car seat adapters, or a twin kit. They can even accommodate three kids if you buy their piggyback board separately (around PS120). Its dual front swivel wheels with superior maneuverability and a convenient foot brakes make it especially secure. In addition, its tray is much larger than other lightweight double buggies and the canopies feature windows that can be opened to allow for better visibility.
This award-winning side-by-side double buggy is the tiniest, full-featured
all terrain 3 wheel stroller-terrain double that is available. Its footprint is the same as a single buggy, so it is able to fit through doorways and on public transport. Its amazing suspension can handle tough terrain like a pro and our Lab experts love the fact that it folds down to the perfect resting spot within a matter of seconds or two. The adjustable handlebar features an additional handbrake to ensure security. The seats can be reversed, so you can choose to have the children facing forward or have the parents facing each other - great for twins and siblings of different ages.
