There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. 3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
