World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses like crit chance and PvE damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template that is ending in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item level increases.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets in order to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot to accommodate them; the item must have been at the very least upgraded to blue level in order for the component to be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are a type of upgrade item component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

When an individual player improves the equipment they have, the base item is replaced by a new item. The same armor will be upgraded to an weapon or shield when upgraded. The upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens in order to do so.
