The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot hoover and mop vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map.
