Our service can provide
private titration adhd ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.
titration adhdA thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.
After your examination After your assessment, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which can be scheduled in person, via video link or by phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating dosage to ensure the balance of benefits and side effects for you.
This process could take several weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child's medication until the right balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to adjust two or three medicines before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to participate in this titration process, and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior, so that they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.
If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will be issued an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You must keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.
Follow-up appointments
Once the assessment has been completed, you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with your psychiatrist, if appropriate. The appointment is typically conducted by video conference using zoom. In some circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again at an additional cost).
At this point we will discuss any treatment options we have and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication, as well as any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.
The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD is a genetic condition and it
what is adhd titration essential that we assess any family history that might indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.
During this examination, it is essential to be truthful and honest with the clinician, as they will be using the information you provide to determine if you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is an important step because an incorrect diagnosis could result in an inappropriate prescription of medication.
If you've decided you would like to be treated for your ADHD We will arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this area. This can be done at the time of your diagnosis if you are eager to begin treatment right away, or within two weeks if you would like more time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.
We recommend that if you are unsure of your preferences, talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment. Some providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require an GP letter. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.
Medication
For many who wish to obtain a private diagnosis of ADHD, medication is an important aspect of their journey. It can be difficult to get a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.
One method to avoid this is to request your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers an assessment on your own and
titration adhd medication. This can cut down on wait time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you are working and have a full schedule.
If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will examine you and decide whether or not you need to be titrated on medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that vary by provider but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires as well as medical histories from childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician identify any conditions that could suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.
If you are on a titration medication, this will usually be a combination of non-stimulant and stimulant medications. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration process may be lengthy and may require some additional appointments before you are stable on your dosage.
Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician making sure that you are taking the correct medication, noting any adverse effects you have had and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're on a dose that is safe. You are required to attend an annual review as well as a regular health check-up that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements.
Some people might be satisfied with their medication, and therefore do not need to discuss their titration further. For those who require further discussions regarding their titration and treatment plans, it's possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration appointment will be part of their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication through an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than a prescription from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
