WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the
item level upgrade level by +3. A random substat is also increased with every upgrade.
The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the
item level upgrade that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.
The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.
Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to
upgrade items tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will show an image of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an
item upgrader kit has been upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.
Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.
In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to an entirely different set of gear.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.
Crests
When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex may require as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.
Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.
The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it will bring some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.
Another important modification is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the
Best item upgrader equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
