Which Lightweight Double
pushchair double Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around in a lightweight double pushchair, particularly if you have children of varying ages. They are easy to fold, steer and transport up and down the steps.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopy, and peekaboo windows. It also comes with a smart frame that can expand in width to accommodate a second car seat and a compatible car seat(s).
Side-by-Side
The majority of lightweight
double pushchairs we tested are side-by-side models and they're generally best for children who can stand up without assistance because they tend to be lacking car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both great options that provide recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprint, and are ideal for parents who are worried about fitting through doors.
The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because it has a clever frame that can be expanded to allow for a second child seat. This makes it slimmer than other pushchairs with side-by-side seating. It can fit through doors of standard size and is easy to maneuver in public transport. It can also be used as a jogger, which is great when you're planning to use it with baby carriers or a car seat, and comes in a variety of fun colors.
Another great side-by-side, lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which allows for even more customization with a modular frame. It's a clever design that lets you convert it into a single stroller or a double by adding 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). It's a good option for families growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, most fashionable and most stylish available.
If you're looking for a compact and lightweight double, you can try the egg2 which folds to the size of a compact suitcase. It can be used either as a double or single by adding 2 carrycots or baby car seats. Our home testers were amazed by the ease of move around even with a load of children.
Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, howeverIf your children are at the same age or stage they may still fight over who is allowed to ride in which seat. If they are at different heights then the tandem model could be best for them, as it allows them to face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models are better suited for siblings with similar ages, tandem lightweight double
pushchairs double offer their own perks. Some can accommodate a larger car seat and some have seats that can be reversible. Some even come with an additional carrycot or reversible seat in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and simple to get in and out of the baskets, though they tend to be smaller than those of single buggies. Many also feature more generously large canopies that have peekaboo windows as well as a parent cup holder and cushioned leg cushions for the young children.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. Its fabric feels a bit less luxurious than our other top-rated tandems, but it still looks and feels great and is user-friendly. One of the most impressive things about it is its one-handed fold. While it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". It's not possible to fold it without the carrycot attached, however the mechanism for attaching and removing it is simple and quick.
Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will generally have tighter turns than side-by-side models but they can be more challenging to drive over uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also slower to accelerate and more heavy to move. This puts strain on your back.
A convertible
double travel stroller buggy is an additional option. It's initially a single, but you can add adapters to make it
double running buggy. It can also include an additional seat, a carrycot, or both in the front. The children can be seated together. Some may have the option of including a buggyboard, which assists an older child to keep up with younger siblings or brothers.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a good example of a convertible, since it can be converted into a
twin stroller with car seats pram with the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that create a lie-flat area for infants. They can be attached together or placed on top of each other. You can also use the car seat that was included with the pushchair, in the event that it is compatible with the. These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of high-quality materials that can be used for many years without showing any wear. This means they have a high resale price.
Single-to-Double
Ideal for families who love to be outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy transforms into a jogger thanks to an innovative kit that includes air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It can also handle rough terrain well and it's a tandem triple that, is perfect for twins or children of various ages. It's also a great choice for parents who want an elegant design that's just as sleek as a single, and is available in a range of fabrics.
We were impressed by the way this iCandy model folds into itself with a one-handed mechanism that's really simple to master. Although it's heavier than some of the other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, our home tester Karolina said that it still feels very maneuverable - even with two toddlers and a carrycot inside.
You can purchase additional items such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are perfect for newborns. The seats are comfortable for toddlers, with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are plenty of options for reclining, with the front seat being adjustable to different positions, and the rear seat having the option of recline.
This type of buggy has the main disadvantage of being larger than doubles that are side-by-side. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it can be difficult to get up and down kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these types of strollers tend to be able to deal with paved surfaces. They're also lighter than many side-by-sides, so you can still have plenty of storage space. These strollers aren't easy to maneuver around supermarkets with narrow aisles and they may struggle to carry loads. It's a bit easier to turn around on the smallest of curved paths but it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are also easier to turn than others, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.
Convertible
The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they are able to adapt to changing family requirements. They are typically single buggies. They have adapters that allow you to add a second child's seat, a carrycot, or (in certain instances) an automobile seat to the frame. Some can even convert back to a single as your older child begins to walk or prefers to ride on buggy boards.
One of the lightest double strollers on our list, this sleek tri-fold model can carry children as heavy as 40 pounds each. It also has a convenient basket that can be placed between the seats for storage. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and front and back suspension for smoother and more comfortable riding on rough terrain were well-loved by testers at home. It also has a convenient parent cup holder and a large, easy-to-access basket. They also noted that the backs have tiny pockets, which are just large enough to hold phones and a set of keys.
This top-of-the-line, lightweight side-byside can be used in more than 20 configurations and includes an additional seat and carrycot. Its impressive set of features includes a high-profile handlebar for easier steering; front and rear suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold that has straps for easy schlepping; and seven-inch swivel lock front wheels and 10-inch rear wheels with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only drawback is that you'll need purchase a separate baby carrier or car seat.
This multi-functional tandem is the most popular of our home testers because it is easy to maneuver and has an enormous shopping basket that can be accessed from both seats when they are in the parent-facing position. It is a breeze to move around due to its surprisingly low weight (about the equivalent of some single pushchairs). Many people praise the clever way it attaches the second seat or riding board to the back. Parents also liked the fact that it could accommodate infant carriers and car seats from multiple brands, including those which aren't usually fit in other double buggies.
