Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly rated and extremely functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop, is a well made machine. The price of $1400 might be difficult to swallow, however, it is usually available to make it more affordable. The unit is beautiful, and the base station takes up very little space in a corner of an area.
The design of this robot is able to address some of the issues we've had with other robotic mop and vacuum units, such as the brushes becoming entangled in hair, and the brush not being able to reach floors that are not covered by furniture. The ability to sweep floors and carpets is also impressive. The vacuum/mop has an excellent level of debris collection and the mop is able to quickly soak up flooring.
The mops also use an advanced system for cleaning along the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot is able to avoid the bulkier obstacles such as toys, food bowls, shoes, and backpacks with any difficulty. However, it could get stuck or become entangled with smaller and flatter objects, such as shoelaces USB cables and pens.
We used this robot to clean and mop a mix of pile rugs, FLOR carpet tiles and hardwood floors within a large, open house floor layout. It vacuumed and mops the 90m2 space in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than the average for Gen 4 robots.
Several features distinguish this robot from others in its class. The Freo X Ultra has a slew of software, sensor and hardware enhancements designed to keep it at the top of its class. It has declared autonomy of 3.5 hours in environments up to 260m2.
Freo's application lets you modify various functions, such as how often the robot returns back to the base station. You can also change the frequency of mopping, the power level (silent or
intelligent Vacuum cleaner), or the mopping humidity. The app is able to detect dirty spots and create an appropriate cleaning route. It can also dispensate detergent and raise the carpet pads.
Other notable features include a fast charging battery, an easy-to-read display on the robot's bottom and a practical dock door that opens easily. The Freo X Ultra is the most efficient vacuum and mop for home and apartment owners who want to cut down on their chores while keeping their home clean and tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele has a track record of quality and innovation in the field of robotic vacuuming. This new robot is designed to elevate the cleaning performance to a whole new level with its innovative features.
The RX3 features dual suction, intelligent navigation with 3D mapping, and a camera that sends live images to your smartphone for effortless control. The RX3's robust four-stage system provides excellent dust collection on hard floors and carpets. Swing-out side brushes with dual suction channels, and intuitive controls clean corners. Its 8.5 cm height lets it reach under furniture that is low. Front cameras and an infrared sensor assist in navigating barriers, thresholds and obstructions with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our tests on how well it cleaned baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its suction of 2,500Pa was weaker than the other robots, however it was still quiet and moved quickly. It didn't mop, and its cleaning pad that was removable was a challenge to attach. It also was unable to take on dirt that had dried up.
Its app is a little basic and lacks features such as multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It does support Alexa however its voice controls aren't particularly clear or responsive. It's also a bit flaky when it returns to the charging station after an exercise. Other robots can follow the wall or trace the previous route however the RX3 stumbles around until it finally gives up.
Another issue we faced was with its
smart vacuum cleaner features, particularly the mapping function and digital keep-out zones. It was good at keeping our furniture legs and shoes away, but it was easily hung up on socks, cables, and carpets. We decided not to include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. With a decent price and impressive performance The Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
