Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly-rated and highly-functional Gen 4 robotic
vacuum robot and mop, is a well made machine. The price of $1400 may be hard to swallow but it's often offered for sale to make it more affordable. The unit is beautiful, and the base station occupies only a tiny space in the corner of a room.
The design of this machine addresses the issues we've faced with other robotic mop and vacuum units, including brushes that get tangled up in hair and the vacuum brush not being able enough to reach the flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping performance on carpets and bare floors is also impressive. The vacuum/mop has a high level debris pickup and the mop will quickly soak up bare floors.
The mops also employ an intelligent system to clean along the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot is able to avoid the bulkier obstacles like food bowls, toys shoes, and backpacks without any problem. It is able to get tangled or get stuck with smaller, more compact objects like shoelaces, USB cable, and pen.
We used this robot to clean and mop a variety of pile carpet tiles, FLOR carpet and hardwood floors in a large, open floor plan. It cleaned and mopped the 90 square meters in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled. This is about the average for Gen 4 robots.
Certain features differentiate this robot from other robots in its class. Freo X Ultra is equipped with a number of improvements in software, sensors and hardware to keep it ahead of its class. It has declared autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments of up to 260m2.
Freo's application lets you alter various functions, such as how often the robot comes to the base station. You can also alter the frequency of mopping and the power level (silent, intelligent) or the mopping's humidity. The app can also detect heavily soiled areas and create an efficient cleaning route, as well as dispense detergent or raise the pads on carpet.
Other notable features include a simple-to-read display on the
robot hoover's bottom and an access door for docks that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra is the ideal vacuum and mop for home or apartment owners who want to make a difference in their chores while keeping their homes tidy and clean.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is not a slouche in the world of robotic vacuuming and has a reputation for quality and innovativeness. The new Miele robot is designed to elevate the cleaning performance to a whole new level, with its smart features.
The RX3 features a dual-suction system, intelligent mapping with 3D mapping as well as a camera which transmits an image in real-time to your smartphone. The RX3's robust four-stage system provides excellent dust collection on carpets and hard floors. Side brushes that can be swung out, dual suction channels and easy-to-use controls keep corners clean. The 8.5 cm height lets it fit under furniture that is low, and front cameras and infrared sensors assist it navigate around obstacles and thresholds with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our tests on how well it was able to clean baking powder from corners and baseboards. Its 2,500Pa of suction was a little weaker than other robots, however, it moved swiftly and was extremely quiet. It did not mop and its cleaning pad that was removable was a challenge to attach. It also was unable to take on dirt that had dried up.
Its app is on the basic side with no advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes and
automated vacuum cleaner scheduling. It does work with Alexa however its voice controls aren't particularly clear or responsive. It's also a little erratic when it returns to the charging station following a run. Other robots can follow an obstruction or follow the previous route, but the RX3 is a mess until it quits.
We also encountered issues with the intelligent features of the device, including its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. While it did a good job of keeping away from our furniture legs and shoes but it could easily be hung up by socks and cables, and couldn't handle the tassels of rug. We didn't include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and a dazzling performance. It's worth a look as an alternative to uprights that are traditionally used.
