Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaners reviews that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robot vacuums best vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.
