1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in removing dog hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can work while you're at work, or going to school. The only thing it's missing that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robot vacuum cleaners uk vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
