Robot vacuums and mops are increasingly adept, passing our tests of cleaning and tackling a variety of floor types. Select models that allow you to choose between multiple modes, including self-emptying and clean stairs.
Many of the top models work with your smartphone. Check for an app that lets you save maps, set schedules and select cleaning modes.
1. Eufy Omni S1 Pro
Eufy's gunmetal-and gloss black Omni S1 Pro is one of the most impressive robot vacuum and mop combos available on the market. It uses lidar to navigate, and create maps of rooms and floors (even multiple levels) and integrates with the free Eufy Clean application that lets you set up schedules and modify the S1's behaviour.
When I tested the S1, it was quick to identify the downstairs area, which has linoleum flooring in the kitchen-diner and bathrooms, along with medium-pile carpeting and a large area rug. It was capable of driving up to walls and even cross thresholds that are raised without issue. However it had some issues navigating down the stairs in one step. The S1 also did a fantastic job cleaning hard floors with its mop that moved smoothly on its flat side against the floor, and then lifting itself when it was near carpet or rugs.
Before each mopping session, the docking station of the S1 automatically empties its dustbin and refills the water tank with filtered, clean water ozonated. The dock also adds a cleaning solution into the water for deep cleaning. The S1's water tank can hold enough water for about twelve cleaning sessions before needing to be emptied, though this can vary based on how often you use the mop.
The S1 needs periodic maintenance, just like any other 2-in-1 robots. You'll need to wash out the dirty tank to prevent it from becoming blocked. Also, you'll need to clean your sensor and swivel wheel frequently to avoid them becoming blocked by dirt or dust. Overall the S1 is easy to maintain, particularly compared to other models that require more care.
2. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo Complete
This all-in-one robotic mop and vacuum from Ecovacs is a reliable option for cleaning requirements. The
best robot hoover vacuum has 8,700Pa suction power and comes with a variety of innovative features including voice control and smart path planning that cleans around furniture and avoids obstacles. The mopping capabilities of the robot are impressive, with mops that rotate that actually lift and scrub the floor, rather than simply dragging the pad across it. The mops can be dried and cleaned at the base station if needed.
This robot combo has a simple interface that guides you through the process. It includes an electric hand vacuum that can be recharged for those areas that the robot isn't able to reach as well as two water tanks that are automatically emptied and refilled as required. It comes with a variety of useful settings that allow you to fine tune your cleaning preferences.
The Deebot X2 Combo Complete does excellent job of vacuuming, and has a powerful suction that easily removes most of the debris, and even smaller pieces of dust that other robots struggle with. Its navigation abilities are also quite good, though it could get stuck on small area mats and rugs around my home (which you can reduce by defining virtual boundaries in the app). Mopping capabilities are quite good and include a pair of mop heads that can lift and scrub the floor instead of simply moving the pad across it. The mops can also be cleaned with hot water and dried in the base station whenever needed. The mops are also filled from the top of the base station as required.
3. Dreame X40 ultra
Dreame's X30 Ultra robot vacuum and mop was launched earlier this year. However, their latest flagship model has even more impressive features. It has fantastic cleaning results and is simple to maintain. This makes it a top contender on our top list of robot vacuums and mop. Its superior mapping capabilities, RGB AI smart recognition and a long side brush will give you a thorough, custom-designed clean.
The X40 Ultra does an excellent job of vacuuming, picking up large and fine particles from both hard floors and carpets. It cleaned the dirtiest areas of our tests well by avoiding pet hairs as well as other messes. The sweeping performance is augmented by a side brush that automatically moves out to tackle difficult-to-reach corners, and an extending mop pad that deploys alongside baseboards.
Its navigation is smart, navigating tiny spaces and negotiating stairs without stepping back. It can easily move from one room to another without changing direction which is a great feature for homes with many rooms. Its obstacle avoidance is not as advanced than the ones of other competitors and leaves a wide margin over obstacles. This could lead to miss-hit spots.
The app is streamlined user interface that is designed to be easy to use for both new and experienced users. The app lets you schedule and manage cleaning tasks. You can also alter the suction power, mop settings as well as view 2D and 3-D maps. You can control it via the app, Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also remotely control the X40 Ultra camera for real-time monitoring. You'll require a stable Wi-Fi connection in order to operate it via the app as well as external controls.
4. Roomba Q5 pro
A robot vacuum can do a fantastic job of picking up dirt and debris but it's not always able to be able to reach every piece of dust. That's why it's important to use your regular vacuum at least once a week, especially to remove dust from corners, on shelves and in the crevices of your couch. Roborock's Q5 Pro, a 2-in-1
robot cleaner with mop that vacuums and mop, is designed to do exactly that. It is simple to connect to your WiFI network at home and works with Alexa or Apple Siri.
The Q5 is a stripped down version of the more expensive S-series models from the company, which includes the top-of-the-line Roborock S8 maxV ultra. It is equipped with a similar LIDAR mapping sensor, but it saves cost by removing mopping functions and using a cheaper plastic body.
The Q5 is still one of the most powerful vacuums and mopping robots we've ever seen at this price even though it's not able to wipe your floor. It features a powerful suction of 5500Pa and an automatic emptying system, so you don't have to empty the bin manually every time. It also has a clever app that lets you set your floor type and schedule cleanings. It also has an
automatic vacuum and mop water tank refill and wash system that allows hands-free operation.
Its mops are also awe-inspiring, with 2700Pa of power to take on dirt, dust, and pet hair on hard floors and carpets. The Q5 is one of the few robots we test that didn't have issues with high-pile carpets or area rugs, but it couldn't pick up cat litter or cable tangles that's not a surprise considering it doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance.
5. K10 Plus
K10 Plus is the quietest robovac we have ever tested. It also has an innovative mapping system that helps it reach tight corners and corners that other vacuums are unable to. It also stores dust in a larger bin which means you need empty it less frequently. It also has washable filters which can further cut costs. This robot can detect carpets, and boost suction if needed. The app allows you to mark areas you want to avoid, which is a nice feature.
