The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot vacuum that mops mop cleaners we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
