The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors clean. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as a dirt detector) are both positives.

Make sure you regularly check your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large particles and wash them if required. Some models will also empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin located at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxes This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the autonomous vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto vacuum and mop-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create an automatic vacuum and mop robot spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
