1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dust bin once it gets full.

Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested. It may get stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. The battery's life span is approximately an hour-and-a-half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line and is equipped with the most recent features. It is self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot via the app or via voice.

In our testing the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin that eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car in a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces power without fading for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to suck up large crumbs and fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It is able to quickly switch from best floor vacuum robot vacuum to handheld vacuum and vice versa.

The model comes with an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also provides the ability to connect two attachments and the handheld. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is an average, not an exceptional, run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's enough time to sweep the average-sized home but not enough to get into every corner. (A second pass usually works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeably superior on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored best affordable robot vacuum vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to invest too much on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our testing, and it often passes over the same areas many times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our top picks, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before making it back to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer components that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and performs better on floors with low pile and bare.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a brand is found on all kinds of home electronics It's no surprise that they're also one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic vacuum cleaners cleaner, including virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior customization docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use, just like other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a deal breaker for some buyers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that is accessible via the app, and you can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or kids when you're away from home. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned to ensure a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that's self-emptying to keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Contrary to other robotic vacuums that are made for hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. They have a wider house cleaning robot path as well as a large dustbin that holds twice as much debris than competitors to keep the area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also have two side sweepers for cleaning along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model comes with AutoSense that automatically adjusts the power level according to whether it's cleaning up surface dirt or embedded dirt. It also includes a smart application that lets you view the virtual map, and control the functions and schedules. You can also check the status of the vacuum and then send it to its dock for charging with the click of a button. The app allows you to modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.

The app allows you to manually steer the robot, if necessary. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that can trip up some of the other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border without ever registering the edge. And the ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
