1. Rocket Appartamento
Rocket Appartamento is a top choice for those who wish to make espresso at home without making huge sacrifices in terms quality. This small-footprint espresso machine was designed for those who have little counter space. It has a great build quality with a compact footprint. It comes equipped with a 1.8-liter copper heat exchange boiler and commercial E61 group head so you can steam milk and brew espresso at the same time.
The machine looks fantastic as well, and has a round side panel insert with the engraved steam and hot water spouts. This is a modernization of Rocket's original design which is already impressive for a small appliance. It also includes the black pressure gauge, which will let you know when the boiler is ready to use.
One drawback of this compact machine is that the drip tray and the water reservoir are smaller than the majority of machines. It is important be cautious when emptying and refilling the machine. This is especially true in the event that you frequently use it. This is a cost that is a result of having smaller footprint. It's not an issue that is specific to this model.
This machine can easily handle your coffee demands. However, we would suggest investing in a quality grinder, like the Baratza Sette Gigante, for increased consistency and flavor. You can also pair the machine with a Rocket Portafilter to improve tamping.
As a prosumer espresso machine, the Rocket Appartamento is capable of making great drinks, and is easy to make Latte art. However, it's important to remember that the machine was not designed for novices, and there is an enlightening curve for those upgrading from appliance-grade machines. The heat exchange boiler can be a little tricky to control, and you will have to master the ins and outs of cooling flushes.
Both the Lelit Bianca as well as the Rocket Appartamento have the option to connect to an water source, allowing you to always be capable of drinking cold, filter-filtered water. The latter, however, has a 2.25-liter water tank that could be more difficult to fill than its competitors.
2. Lavazza A Modo Mio Jolie
This machine is built to Lavazza's highest standards. It is quick to reach the brewing temperature, which allows you to make your first cup of
coffee machine maker in less than 35 minutes. The water tank is fast and easy to refill, with the lid detaching completely to create a large opening. You can fill it with tap water should you wish.
The Lavazza A Modo Mio is the smallest model in the series, yet it packs a punch. At full price, it costs under PS100 - which is less than the Nespresso Essenza and similar machines from SMEG and Desea. This makes the Jolie an ideal choice for those without the budget or space for a traditional espresso maker, but who want to get their fix of authentic Italian espresso.
The Jolie is incredibly simple to operate and takes up just a little counter space. Pressing one button will begin the process. After pressing it again, it will start dispensing the pod you have selected. The button is illuminated so that you can see how much you have consumed. You can also stop the process, if you want to drink the pod in smaller portions.
This model does not come with a steam wand however, you can add creamy frosting to your milk by using an optional milk frother. It's also quiet and can be used to make coffee in a small kitchen or workspace.

It comes with a 75cm power cable and plug as well as a quick-guide and warranty sheet and a tester box containing nine Lavazza pods: six roasts (two Qualita Rossa, two Lungo Dolce and two Delizioso) and two decaffeinated (Dek Cremoso). The machine is small enough to be placed under a cupboard or flat surfaces.
3. Breville BES870XL
At first glance at first, the Breville Barista Express looks like an espresso machine that is out of the budget of many average consumers. If you're willing and able to learn to use it, then this is a great home espresso maker. It's more efficient than many of the more expensive models. It's an excellent price for the class and is particularly helpful for beginners who don't yet have an espresso machine that can cost up to $100.
The model is just in the middle of the line for Breville (their Oracle is the most expensive model at $2,199) However, it's an excellent option for home baristas on a tight budget. It has plenty of customizable features, and it even comes with a built-in burr grinder to make the whole experience much more affordable. It's also a single boiler that means it can only do steaming or brewing at one time.
Despite being a relative newcomer to the market of espresso machines, Breville has quickly made their mark by offering top-quality equipment. This machine is no different and offers enough control that it can be adjusted to let baristas who are aspiring burnish their abilities without spending more than they need to.
The unit is not without its quirks. For instance, the hopper on this model is placed on the side of the unit, instead of on top. This isn't an issue however it can be a little difficult to give multiple shots at once. It's also difficult to see how much water is left in the tank because of its rear position.
If you're willing to invest time learning to make use of the Breville Barista Express then it's an excellent appliance for any coffee lover at home. The only downside to the Breville Barista Express is the price which could be a deterrent for some buyers. If you're looking for a low-cost alternative, we recommend the Gaggia Classic and the La Pavoni Impresso. Both are equally powerful and offer a bit more control than the Barista Express, but they'll cost you a fraction of what this Breville model can do.
4. OXO Brew 9 Cup
A high-tech smart coffee maker with a simple user interface that produces great coffee. The sleek stainless steel design with backlit LED screen provides your kitchen with a stylish design. It features one dial to set the amount of cups you want it to make and includes two cup settings as well as a 5-9 cup setting. Its brewing technique is similar to pour-over, which most coffee lovers believe makes the best-tasting coffee. The water is heated to a perfect temperature and then poured over grounds with a shower-head for uniform saturation. The
professional coffee machine is then brewed inside the double-walled thermal carafe for upto 60 minutes. The pause-and pour feature lets you remove the carafe while brewing and then fill your cup. The machine stops the brewing process, and displays the red light on its LED interface until you return the carafe. Then, it resumes brewing.
The OXO 9-Cup coffee maker has been SCAA certified, which means it meets the organization’s strict technical standards. The brew cycles are the same as those of the Bodum Bistro and the Technivorm Moccamaster 741 but it gives you more control over temperature and brewing time.
In our testing we found that the OXO Brew 9-Cup made a pot of excellent drip coffee that was served in a full cup in just 7 minutes and 41 seconds. This is slightly more than the 6 minutes the Bonavita Connoisseur or the Moccamaster requires, but within the time range that experts in the field recommend to make a great cup.
You must also grind your beans before brewing. You can opt for either a manual grinder or a more automated model such as the Baratza Encore. It has various grind settings, as well as a hopper for whole beans.
The only downside is that the carafe as well as the water reservoir aren't dishwasher-safe and could cause hassle for some users. The stainless steel can be cleaned by hand. The OXO 9-Cup is a top contender for the best drip coffee maker because of its sleek design and simple to use interface.
