1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ a good option for those looking for an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind having to empty their dust bin manually when it is full.

Both robots are good at picking up surface dirt on carpets and hard floors and are able to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robot vacuum rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can be stuck on things like socks or power cords, and it may have trouble navigating across surface transitions like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot and is equipped with the most recent features. In our tests the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy the dust bin is self-emptying which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with cordless vacs that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an automobile. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households however, it can also fit in well next to a coffee table or on the bookshelf, where you can wave it around like an enchanted device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens and expels clean air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large particles or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It can quickly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

The main issue with the V10 is its limited running time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is a standard battery-powered remote vacuum cleaner's run time. This is enough time to clean a typical-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second run is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our tests and would often go over the same area several times for an extensive clean. Its flat front end helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges and walls, which is a nice addition.

The app also makes it easy to steer the robot manually if needed. My living room rug, for instance is darkly colored which could cause a problem for other robots.
