Choosing a Double Pram and Pushchair
A good double pram or pushchair will simplify the lives of families, especially on busy streets or in shops and stores. Find a model that has ample storage space for nappies, snacks, and other essentials.
Some first-time parents opt for a future proof pushchair that can be used as a single stroller when baby is born. It can be converted into a
Twin Strollers For Newborns mode when the baby has arrived. Joolz offers a range of options.
Tandem
The announcement that you're expecting a baby is one of the most exciting moments in your life. After the excitement wears off and the reality of the situation kicks in, you'll be faced with many choices regarding how to prepare your family. The proper stroller or pram is one of the most important considerations.
Tandem prams, also known as "in-line" double prams are a classic design with two bassinets or chairs placed side-by-side. The front seat, which is usually cushioned, reclines and is suitable for newborns. The second seat is upright and designed to accommodate toddlers as young as three years. Some models have the option of reversible seating, which lets you choose to have your children face towards each other or gaze at you. Many tandems can be made into a single pushchair when your oldest child is no longer in need of the second seat.
In terms of cost, a tandem is much cheaper than a
best twin buggy pushchair and can be an excellent choice for parents looking to save money, but not compromise on safety or convenience. However, the drawback of a tandem is that it could feel long and heavy to steer, especially when you're bumping up or down kerbs, and it is usually less stable than a twin pushchair, especially if the child with the most weight is seated in the front. A tandem can also be difficult to get onto public transport and is difficult to navigate on narrow roads.
The iCandy Peach is a popular model with a strong image that's a great choice for a singleton parent who wants something streamlined however, the tandem mode can make it feel large and heavy when pushing. It comes with a clever frame that expands widthways to allow the addition of the second seat, and can be used with a variety of combinations of carrycots, buggy chairs and car seats (two at once or separately). The iCandy Wave tandem is another
lightweight twin stroller option that is easy to use and compatible with a variety of car seats or carrycots.
Side by side
When it comes to choosing a double pram or pushchair there's a lot to think about. If you're buying for twins or siblings who are close in age there are plenty of configuration options to consider. Tandem prams, also known as side-by-side prams, are popular choices due to the fact that they can be set up so that the infant can be seated in the bassinet at the top while the toddler or older child is seated in the second seat.
Some models even feature convertible seats, which means you can modify the seating to suit your family's needs throughout the baby and toddler years. This lets you be able to watch your children at all times and allows them to interact when they walk.
Tandem prams are jogging buggies as well as all-terrain buggies. They are great for outdoor excursions, like to the park. These are also good for narrow aisles or checkouts in shops and supermarkets as they are more compact.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for example, can be used as a tandem pram from birth in the dual mode, with the addition of the rumble seat (PS249). Then, you can change to a single pram mode once your child gets used to the rumble seat or select the car capsule adaptors (PS53) to turn it into a travel system for newborn to toddler.
Another alternative is the Side by Side Pram from Babybee. This double side-by-side pram comes in a range of colors and is designed with a modern style. It is designed to be used from the moment of birth, you can choose to add the LUNA newborn cocoon (PS262) or the LUNA infant seats (PS53 each) to ensure your little ones are comfortable and safe.
The Egg 2 is a stylish elegant pushchair that is able to be converted into a double side-byside. It's available in a variety of infant seat and carrycot combinations to accommodate twins or siblings of varying age groups. It's also easy to fold. It's also fairly lightweight and compact, making it a great option for those with little space in their cars or don't have enough space for storage.
Convertible
The top double prams and pushchairs are able to be used in multiple ways and some are capable of changing seat configurations to suit your family's changing needs. You can fit two toddlers in seats or a third child on the seat board, and still have space for a shopping basket and the capability to add accessories such as rain covers is a benefit. Convertible double strollers tend to be heavier and bulkier than
single to double pushchair pushchairs due to the fact that they are designed to accommodate two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow convertible is an example of a very affordable convertible that is simple to use. However, our reviewers thought it was somewhat heavy for the price.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2 have a carrycot that is suitable for newborns. This helps to reduce the size of the
lightest double stroller stroller when it is not in use and makes it more compact. Our test subjects were awed by the City Select's unique one-handed fold, although it takes a bit of practice. It's also very nimble and responsive, despite being bigger than
double infant strollers strollers.
Another option that is reasonably priced is an affordable option is the Cybex Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller. It converts from a car seat with a parent seat to a forward-facing toddler seat and the bassinet-style mode is a fantastic option for infants (although remember that babies under 4 months old should not use strollers to sleep due to the risk of asphyxia in a position).
To be more flexible, opt for a convertible that has dual modes like the iCandy Peach. It's a slim double stroller that can accommodate two children side-by-side. It can also be used to create a tandem by adding a second seating kit. It's nimble and responsive and our testers loved its sleek design. It's not as light as some of the other pushchairs in our list however, it comes with an enormous shopping basket that is great for parents who carry bags of toys and groceries.
Lightweight
Some parents prefer to secure their double buggy when they have one child and are expecting another and a convertible model is a good option. The iCandy Peach allows you to transform from a single to a double pushchair with the addition of a toddler seat or the brand's carrycot (which is suitable for sleeping at night). Our test subjects were impressed by the comfort of the seats and love the fact that can recline in a variety of positions, feature built-in foot and leg supports and large UPF 50+ canopy with windows that peek out. The rear seat can be raised so that the child who is older can stand on it to reach the basket of shopping.
The only drawback of the iCandy Peach is that it is quite heavy, but Cher felt it was offset by how easy it is to move around and how big the storage is equipped with two hanging child and parent cup holders, seat-back pockets and a large underseat basket. Cher also appreciated that seats can be flipped so that they be positioned to face each other, which is great for siblings who want to interact and talk when out and out and about.
The Delta Children LX Side-by-Side Stroller is a lighter option, but still impressive. It weighs just 18 pounds, is small, and has a self standing fold, making it simple to transport or put in your trunk. Parents appreciate the quality of the materials and workmanship and the price is low. The only drawbacks are that the seats do not recline as well as other models we've tried and the rear seat isn't as visible due to its location and height. It is higher than the front seat.
The Joolz Geo 3 is another popular option. It's slim, sleek, and easy to steer and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Although they are smaller side-by-side prams may be larger than tandems and inline doubles. This makes them difficult to maneuver on busy streets and in shops. They are also shorter and therefore easier to maneuver in tight spaces.
