Robot vacuums and mops are becoming more efficient, passing our tests of cleaning and tackling different types of floors. Look for models that allow you to choose from a variety of modes, and use their charging docks to automatically empty and clean the stairs.

Many of the top models are compatible with smartphones. Find an application that lets you save maps, schedules and select cleaning modes.

1. Eufy Omni S1 Pro

The gunmetal and gloss black Omni S1 Pro from Eufy is among the most impressive mop and robot vacuum combos available. It uses lidar for navigation, creating maps of rooms and floors.

When I tested the S1 It was quick to identify the downstairs area, which has laminate flooring in the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, along with medium-pile carpeting and a large area rug. It was able to drive close to walls and even across raised thresholds without issue. However it had some issues navigating down the stairs in one pass. The S1 also did a fantastic job cleaning hard floors with its mop that moved smoothly on its flat side against the floor, and then lifting itself when it was near carpet or rugs.

Prior to each mopping session the docking station of the S1 automatically empties its dustbin and fills up its water tank with clean ozonated filtered water. The dock also adds a cleaning solution to the water to ensure deep cleaning. The S1 water tank can hold enough for 12 cleaning sessions, but it will differ dependent on how often you use the mop.

Like all 2-in-1 robots the S1 requires regular maintenance to keep it working well. For this, you'll need to wash the water tank that is dirty regularly to avoid it from clogging. It is also necessary to clean your swivel wheel and sensors regularly to avoid them becoming clogged up with dirt or dust. Overall, the S1 requires less maintenance than other combos.

2. Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo Complete

Ecovacs' all-in-one robot vacuum and mop is an efficient solution for your cleaning requirements. Its robot vacuum has 8,700Pa suction power and comes with many unique features, including voice control and smart path scheduling that cleans furniture and eliminates obstacles. Its mopping capability is impressive, with rotating mops that actually lift and scrub the floor instead of simply moving the pad across it. The mops can also be cleaned and dried at the base station when needed.

Its navigation abilities are also quite good robot vacuum, though it could get stuck on small mats and rugs in my home (which you can reduce by creating virtual boundaries in the app). The mopping capabilities are quite excellent, too, with a pair of spin mop pads that actually lift and scrub floors, instead of simply dragging the pad over it. The mops are also cleaned with heated water and dried in the base station when required. The mops are also filled from the top of the base station when needed.

3. Dreame X40 Ultra

Dreame's X30 Ultra robot vacuum and mop was released earlier this year. But their latest flagship model has even more impressive features. It offers outstanding cleaning results and hands-off maintenance, making it a clear contender for our best robot vacuum and mop list. Its superior mapping abilities, RGB AI smart detection and a larger side brush ensure an efficient, custom-designed clean is accomplished.

The X40 Ultra does an excellent job of vacuuming, removing fine and large debris from both hard floors and carpets. It also cleaned the dirtiest areas well, avoiding tangled pet hairs and other mess. The sweeping power of the machine is boosted by a sidebrush that automatically swings out in order to reach areas that are difficult to reach, and mop pads that run along baseboards.
