Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds can bring excitement and drama to a child's room. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf for books, or a reading light in each sleeping space to make bunk beds more attractive to children.
Many of our bunk beds for kids can be transformed into two twin beds. This is perfect for those who plan to move them into their own bedroom at some point. Choose from finishes such as brushed gray, cream white, and rich walnut.
Ladders and Stairs
You can choose between ladders or stairs when choosing bunk beds for children. Ladders are easy to install and are also less expensive. They also provide an easy way to climb into the top bunk bed. They are also more secure than stairs since they provide a greater surface area for children to walk on and include a handrail that is integrated. Ladders usually have grooves in the steps to avoid slips when climbing up and down the bed.
If you like the design and style of stairs, they may be a beautiful addition to your bunk bed. Staircases can also be utilized in rooms with limited space as they do not protrude like ladders. They can be made from metal or wood, and they can match the wide variety of bedroom designs. Some staircases are even equipped with storage drawers, which are an excellent way to add more space to the
Kid Bunk Beds bed.
When deciding between a ladder and stairs it is important to consider the age of your child. It is recommended that nobody sleep on the top bunk under the age of 6, older children who are comfortable climbing vertically might be better off using stairs rather than a ladder. If you are planning to use your bunk bed for guests, such as older children or adults with limited mobility, it is
best kids bunkbeds to choose stairs.
A straight staircase on the side of the bed requires 95" of space each side. If you don't have this much room, you can choose a u-shaped staircase that doesn't need as much space but still provides a safe and secure means of accessing the top bunk. Some beds allow you to disconnect the stairs when they're not being used. This reduces the footprint of the bed, making it more versatile for multipurpose spaces. There are also stairs that connect to the top of the bed. This eliminates the need for separate handrails, and makes it easier to climb to the bottom for kids.
Guard Rails
Guard rails give kids the confidence and the freedom to climb in and out of bed independently. But they must be positioned correctly, ensuring that no gaps or sagging occurs between the rails of the guard and bed frame. If you decide to install guard rails, be sure to follow the directions of the manufacturer and examine them regularly for any holes or looseness that could potentially lead to an entrapment.
One of the most important safety concerns for bunk beds is to keep them away from electrical devices and other objects that could turn into projectiles when your kids play or sleep. Place bunk beds away from windows to avoid a potential fall hazard in the event that your children are on the upper level.
You may want to install a nightlight on the ladder so that it can illuminate the steps up and down when your child awakes at night to use the bathroom, or if they are awakened by an erupting storm and have to leave their room.
A safety net can be installed at the top of the bunk to stop children from falling off while they're sleeping or playing. This is a great idea, particularly for older children who tend to sleep on the top bunk.
Guardrails must be firmly attached to the bunk bed structure and are not removed without the use tools. The guardrail openings above the mattress foundation should not be more than 3.5 inches wide to avoid strangulation or entrapment. To test this, place the wedge block as shown in Figure 1 into each opening on the lower edge of the uppermost guardrail member and above the underside of the mattress foundation. Apply a force of 33 lbf (147 N) in a direction that is perpendicular to the plane of the largest edge of the block for a minute.
It is also a good idea to teach kids not to hang anything on the guardrails or ladder such as belts, clothing and sports equipment. Instead, a clothes rack is recommended to ensure that these items do not pose a strangulation danger for your child(ren). Also, make sure that more than one child does not sleep on the top of the bunk, as this can create a dangerous imbalance which may cause falls.
Mattresses
Take into consideration the age of your child and their size when choosing a mattress for bunk bed. A bunk mattress will last for at least eight years or until siblings no longer share bedrooms So, you'll want to pick one that's designed to grow with your child while still providing adequate support as they grow older.
There are a variety of bunk mattress sizes. They are usually full or twin size. If your child is suffering from allergies or asthma choose an allergy-free mattress that has an anti-dust barrier and a moisture-wicking cover. Kids are likely to experience a lot of spills and accidents, so mattresses with an antimicrobial layer can help to shield the foam from harmful bacteria and germs.
The comfort of your mattress is also important. Children typically weigh less than adults, which means they require an item that is firm but also comfortable. A lot of hybrid and latex mattresses have a firm side and a soft side to meet the needs of both children.
Memory foam mattresses are great for kids, but we don't recommend them due to their tendency not to cool effectively and can be a strain on the spines of young children. Think about a hybrid or a latex mattress instead, which offer strong support with cooling infusions that will ensure your child or guest is sleeping cool and comfortable.
A mattress with a low profile is usually the best option for kids bunk beds. They are designed to be smaller than regular mattresses, and to maximize the safety rail height of the top bunk. They also eliminate "filler" materials to offer top quality and slim designs.
Consider an innerspring model or hybrid that has upper comfort layers that can be removed and replaced as your child grows. These models will provide an idea of the longevity of the mattress as your child grows. You can also put in a mattress skirt or bed pad to stop it from sliding. Some beds even have built-in lip or side rails to stop this from happening.

The stacking bunks provide a playground for imagination as kids can transform the spaces below into secret spaces for play or cozy spaces. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked six bunks to create the ultimate kids space. It can be used for sleeping, playing or even for twirling superhero capes. The room is decorated with a bubble wallcovering from Chasing Paper, and the ceiling is painted Benjamin Moore Blue Jean.
If you aren't able to build a staircase to your bunk that is stacked, a ladder can be a simple solution. They are constructed using a combination of Single Socket Tee, Flange and 90 Degree Side Outlet Tee fittings and can be easily adjusted to increase or decrease the distance between ladder rungs to make it easier for children to climb. The ladder rungs are also positioned in a straight line with the ground rather than higher, to make climbing easier.
